| uhm well for flow...the best way to put it is to as best you can make the scenes go together in a fluid manner. You need to be able to sit back watch the scene and sya,, yeah that goes together...if its a sharp incremental change it just looks like you forced it. you need to find your own way to make it flow... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ebXekVhAa8this is the best example i can give you from my own vids..notice how each scene plays into the next...thats part of getting good flow. | |

| Flow is in most cases how one clip flows into another clip. The basic idea is to combine a transition with a basic understanding of how space works. Character punches character > transition to character being punched Character jumps into the sky > transition up to look at him Mask of character > pans to another mask or next scene If you dont know how to make a scene flow, i recommend practicing by ripping other people's edits in vegas or ae. DO NOT UPLOAD YOUR RIPPED VIDEOS LOL Ripping editors will give you a better understand on how to edit. I do it all the time to practice (although lately i can figure out how someone did something just by seeing it so i dont rly even need to rip anymore) Another method of better understanding flow is a point to point system. Plot out how you want ur amv to go in ur head. For example, in one of my amvs i have to go 1 2 3 4 and then have this girl walking on a bridge and then to a scene with her on a bike. I could have masked it all and made it transition. I could have done a shit load of push. Instead, what i did was i took linear blur and pan and crop and made it shake from one part to the next. That way because of the lack of scene continuity, there was still that level of bounce from one scene to the next. Heres the amv: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4PGh8LJK_4And its around 0:45 to 0:48 where i do the shaky transitions... I hope this helped .-. if not lemme know and ill explain more. (or just stfu if you prefer...) | |

| I have a question for everybody, how do you plan out your full amvs? Do you just jump in with a basic idea of what you want or do you have a set plan of how it will go down? | |

| I almost never have a plan of any sort. I should, but I don't lol. I just find a song and decide what anime/theme to use with it and go from there. | |

| for me i have to find the perfect song first,it has to have its highs and lows so the song can tell a story. Then its a matter of picking an anime and seeing what kind of story you can tell through the vid | |

| Song comes first, then the source. I just dive into it. i.e. Drake +, I heard the song, I knew that I would do it, heard it a few more times and decided the anime and character and hammered out the parts. That's the thing, when I do a full I decide almost every part before I even lay a clip down. But, small betas can turn into full vids, like A lifetime and Another Lifetime were both supposed to be a small Black Star vid, but I just extended it. | |

| So I have 2 questions, both about masking. The first is pretty simple, it's just I was wondering if the object you are masking is moving, is there anyway to make it any less tedious than just re-masking every single god damn frame lol I was just curious because this is possibly one of the shittiest experiences I have ever had.
The second is how to actually use it. I have tried multiple things and different ways to try and get it to work, but almost every time I just feel like it looks like shit/looks forced, so I end up not even using it. I have been desperately trying to breakaway from this standard crossfade/flash/overlay (I guess this is what it would be called, when you put a clip over another and make the top one transparent) shit but anytime I try to use something like masking it just does not feel right. I feel like this is something I would just pick up on as I become more experienced and actually develop my own style.
I'm just trying to expand from my usual that may seem cool to people who are new to watching AMVs/never actually tried to make one, but when you have actually made an AMV, even only one, I have discovered that nearly everything you thought was awesome before is just not good anymore, that wow factor of them syncing to the music is completely gone.
Anyways I was basically just asking for tips on masking (if there even are any) because I can not seem to get it right D:
-Dat rambling (yeah I wasn't kidding) | |

| That would be a question for proceed to answer since he is the masking king around here haha, once I see him on I'll direct him towards here | |
